Sell Your Problem Car was founded in 2010 by business partners David and Sean, both working in the motor trade their whole lives. They started to notice a trend of newer vehicles developing hard to repair mechanical faults coming into their workshop. As cars were beginning to become more advanced and complicated, there was more to go wrong. The cost of repair was becoming uneconomical in some cases due to specialise equipment and coding starting to be required. Accident damage vehicles were also becoming even harder to repair as well.
Unfortunately, the motor trade did not have the best reputation for customer service, and especially so with mechanical faulty vehicles. People were being offered scrap value for their just-out-of-warranty, mechanically faulty vehicles if they wanted to part exchange them. Dealerships/specialist garages labour costs made diagnosing these cars an expensive endeavour, let alone the cost of repairing them.
The idea was a customer service driven website where people could get a fair price for their mechanically faulty car. They could deal with a friendly team and have the most straightforward process of car selling possible. Customers could have their car collected and have all the paperwork done for them. We could then repair some of the cars, making sure those cars lived on. We could also supply these cars to people in the trade who could go on to repair them.
The more cars we bought, word spread, and we started to get busier. We started working with garages directly, buying cars from their customers who didn’t want to go ahead with repairs. We started getting really good feedback on our excellent customer service, which was the aim all along.
2015 came along and Harvey joined us straight from college (the history degree didn’t quite work out) and was a welcome addition to the team. We could now reach out to more customers and handle even more cars. He’s been with us ever since.
After 6 years of steady growth and bringing in hundreds of positive reviews, it was time for another pair of hands. Ellie joined us in 2021 after experience in the hospitality sector and after studying business. With experience of working with people, she was a fantastic addition to the team.
